Delectable Spa Snacks

We’re all atwitter here in Seattle.  Why? Because we have had two whole days of sunshine in a row. Imagine that; two whole days. Wow. So I immediately started thinking about summertime spa snacks. Then it dawned on me, for some of our goddesses that visit our site, they’re entering into their winter season. With that in mind, I’m presenting a few spa snack ideas for both summer and winter. How’s that for a good compromise?

Summer spa snacks

Beverages

  • A great summertime beverage is a berry slushie. Berries are delicious and loaded with antioxidants. To create a slushie, put 5 or 6 ice cubes in a blender and add berries (about ½ cup). I like things sweet so I add a tablespoon or so of honey.
  • Another excellent beverage is iced white or green tea with a squeeze of lemon and a teaspoon of honey.

Spa snacks

  • Bowl of frozen grapes – I buy a bunch of sweet seedless grapes and pop them in the freezer. When they turn into grapecicles I pour a few in a bowl and serve. I don’t add them all to the bowl because I don’t want them to melt. This is a really good snack on a hot day.
  • Banana sundae – This one is easy and oh so tasty. Cover one scoop of high-quality French vanilla ice cream with ½ banana, ¼ cup walnuts. Pour dark chocolate syrup to taste. To save a few calories, I don’t top with whipped cream.

Winter spa snacks

Our winters here in Western Washington are dark and dreary. I like cheerful comfort foods for my spa snacks in the winter. I just have to be careful not to overeat.

Beverages

  • Steaming hot tea with a teaspoon of honey is one of my favorite winter drinks.
  • I also love a wonderful cup of hot chocolate, particularly after a soothing soak in the tub. I make the chocolate with powdered dark chocolate, 2% milk (soy milk works well also) and sugar. It costs a little more work than dumping a package of mix into water, but it’s better for me.

Spa snacks

  • Shhh. Don’t tell anyone about this because it’s definitely not low fat, but I think quesadillas make one of the best, quickest and most satisfying spa snacks ever. To make these I purchase flour tortillas, slice cheese (I use Colby) on the tortillas and pop them in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. When the cheese is melted, I fold the tortilla in half. I usually top my quesadilla with salsa. Yummmm.

  • Cinnamon toast is another super quick and satisfying winter spa snack. I toast whole grain bread, butter it (I use real butter) and top with cinnamon and sugar.

Winter or summer spa snack

  • This snack is particularly nice when I have a spa party. I add two or three varieties of cheese on a platter with nuts and fresh fruit. Sometimes I will use dry fruit. I buy non-sulphated fruit. My favorite cheeses for this platter are Gouda, which I slice, Brie and bleu. However, I’m not a loyalist and will venture into more exotic cheeses just for fun.
  • I usually have a glass of Pinot Noir or other fruity wine with this spa snack.

There, now you have some of my ideas. What is your favorite spa snack? Come on, out with it, even if it’s decadent. When you share, make sure you include a recipe if applicable.

Now go have fun and relax.
