Fountains are a wonderful relaxing addition to any spa day. Actually they’re great any time you want to create a relaxing atmosphere in your home. An indoor water fountain can be large and imposing or a simple addition to your desktop. The choices are pretty much limitless. In this post we’re going to discuss how to go about adding an indoor water fountain for your spa day or for relaxing anytime.
What are the best indoor water fountains?
The answer to this question will depend a lot on where you live. You can have a small table top fountain like I have. My fountain is surrounded by flowering houseplants. This gives the illusion of a small natural spring garden setting all year. I could have chosen a wall hung fountain for my living room or den. I could have dedicated a room for my plants and used a floor fountain. Hmmm, maybe I’ll do that in the future. However, my small table top, at least for now, serves me very well.
If you prefer, there are also very elaborate indoor water fountains from which to choose with a price to match. These fountains are designed as works of art and can be very beautiful. However, the simpler fountains will give you that lovely soothing sound water makes as it gently flows over rocks or cascades down a slope without the high cost. In addition, some of the simpler indoor fountains are also quite lovely. You can even make your own fountain and design it any way your imagination takes you. It’s very easy and a lot of fun.
How much will an indoor water fountain cost?
- Known artists can be contracted to build custom made indoor water fountains. This choice can cost up into the thousands of dollars. These fountains will be one of a kind works of art. They’re wonderful, but not affordable for many of us.
- Custom made indoor water fountains can also be contracted to someone with experience in making them. Sometimes the craftsman making them will have several designs and sizes to choose from. These fountains may cost $500 or more, however if you ask around you might find someone willing to build your fountain for less. Your local nursery might be a good source in finding someone local to build your fountain.
- Commercially produced indoor water fountains are the least expensive. They can be inexpensive import table top varieties for as low as $10 (Saw one online called a desktop fountain for $10) or so. You’ll find these fountains in the big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes and Wal-Mart. Sometimes your local hardware store will carry them. I’ve even seen them in Walgreens. For the more elaborate fountains, you’ll pay up to $600 these commercially made fountains. You’ll find these fountains online and at stores that specialize in home decorating.
- Homemade indoor water fountains can be inexpensive or very expensive depending on the fountain you create. They can be simple table top models consisting of a bowl to hold water, a pump and a stack of flat rocks over which the water flows. You probably won’t beat the $10 price for a desktop indoor water fountain, but if you shop around you can come close. You just have to be sure you’re buying a pump large enough to accommodate your fountain.
There are excellent books you can buy or pick up at your local library with detailed instructions to help you build an indoor water fountain. They will include all the information you need as to what size pumps to buy and what materials to gather. The best rated book on Amazon was Simple Fountains for Indoors & Outdoors: 20 Step-By-Step Projects by Dorcas Adkins. You might also find it at your local library.
Regardless of your choice of indoor water fountain, if you add one, you’ll reap the benefits of nature’s music. Imagine the sounds of soothing music coupled with that of a waterfall. What a wonderful way to melt the stressors of the day away.
Now go have fun and relax.
