Patricia’s Homemade Spa Day

 

Compared to many women, Patricia has it easy. She doesn’t have money worries therefore she can afford to treat herself to the spa products of her choice. She only has one child, twelve-year-old Luke, her husband, Joe, who is a senior electrical engineer who works in Civil Service, a 10 year old cat, Barney, and Rufus, the family dog.


Patricia occasionally goes to a local spa for a massage and facial, but when her friend, Sue told her how much she enjoyed a home spa day, Patricia decided to give it a try. She met with Sue for lunch one day and found out how Sue spent her spa day; totally self indulgent.

When Patricia got home that afternoon, she went online to research what products might work best for her hair and skin type. However, while reading she became fascinated by essential oils for their mind and body healing properties. She became so fascinated that she went to her local bookstore and purchased the aromatherapy book “Fragrant Pharmacy” by Valerie Ann Worwood.

Patricia’s Products

  • 4 candles scented with lemon essential oil
  • 1 book on aromatherapy which she would read while her face mask was drying.
  • 1 mist diffuser ready to add her blend of essential oils
  • 1 bottle of bergamot essential oil
  • 1 bottle of grapefruit essential oil
  • 1 bottle of rose essential oil
  • 1 bottle of body lotion which she had made a few days earlier out of the same three oils
  • 1 deliciously soft robe and slippers
  • 2 luxuriously soft bath towels

It was three weeks after she decided to try to have a home spa day and Pat was ready for the day. It was a Tuesday morning in mid October. Outside, nature was providing a typical northwest scene of wet, cold and grey. Joe was off to work and Luke was at school. It was perfect for a spa day.

Patricia’s Spa Day

  • When she awoke to see Joe and Luke off, she wore her robe and slippers instead of getting dressed like she normally would.
  • Patricia turned the ringer off to the phones and dimmed the lights.
  • She began her day with 15 minutes of meditation
  • After meditation, she lit the candles and placed one in the master bath, one in the living room, one in the master bedroom and one in the kitchen
  • She placed the diffuser with its blend of oils in the family room since that’s where she would sit to read.
  • For breakfast, she ate a slice of whole wheat toast and a 6 ounce strawberry yogurt
  • After breakfast she ran the water for her bath. She added 8 drops each of the bergamot and grapefruit and 4 drops of the rose oils under the tap so they would mix well.
  • During her bath, she used a gentle soap (Dove) that she had previously purchased She first gently scrubbed her body to invigorate and exfoliate her skin.  Last, with more vigor she scrubbed her feet, ankles, and elbows.
  • After her bath, Pat felt energized and yet relaxed. She applied a simple Fullers earth mask and read her aromatherapy book while the mask dried.
  • Later she rinsed her face and applied her favorite collagen rich anti-wrinkle cream. (She used Good Skin All Bright Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 30), a product she had previously purchased because of its high rating.

Now fully relaxed, refreshed, and invigorated, Patricia decided to read more out of her book. She wanted to learn what essential oils would be good for her hair, nails, and skin. She knew Luke would soon be entering his acne prone years so she was motivated to learn what she could about acne treatment and prevention. There were so many interesting and useful things to know, she couldn’t wait to get started.

One thing she knew above all else. This was going to be the first of many personal spa days.
