Two Lotion Recipes and One Really Cool Surprise

Most lotion recipes call for water as one of the ingredients. If you use water, you must use a preservative or your lotion will grow microbes. If your lotion grows microbes, it becomes unfit for you to use and can afford you a nice liability suit if you’ve sold it to someone. The answer to the dilemma is to create a solid lotion. Solid lotion recipes have no water and need no preservatives. However, you will want to add antioxidants to them, particularly if you are using oils with a short shelf life.

The lotion recipes that follow might be just perfect for you if you’re one of those dang purists like me who hate to use preservatives.

Come Alive Body Lotion Bar

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp beeswax beads
1 Tbsp melted cocoa butter
1 Tbsp melted Shea butter
3 drops vitamin E oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
5 drops frankincense essential oil
A pinch of mica colorant

Instructions:

Heat beeswax into cocoa and Shea butters just until beeswax is just melted. Now you’re ready to add your oils and colorant, but before you do, make certain the mixture isn’t too hot otherwise you risk damaging the integrity of the essential oils. Pour into mold and let harden. When hard (about 30 minutes), press from mold and wrap your creation in plastic wrap and you’re done. Note: If lotion is hard to remove from mold, pop it in the freezer for a few minutes. This formula makes one 3 oz bar.

Days End Body Lotion Bar

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp beeswax beads
2 Tbsp melted cocoa butter
3 drops vitamin E oil
5 drops Clary sage essential oil
5 drops lavender essential oil
A pinch of mica colorant

Instructions:
Heat beeswax into cocoa just until beeswax is just melted. What to do if you make a mistake?

1. If the bar is too hard, re-melt and add a few drops more oil.

2. If it’s too soft, re-melt and add a few beads more beeswax.

The Surprise

You can make a lotion candle out of these recipes that will make an awesome gift. The candle is lit right after a shower or bath while you’re toweling off. When ready, blow out the candle. Wait a few seconds for the lotion to cool slightly then pour a small amount of softened lotion in palm of hand and smooth on body for a luxurious warm, skin-nourishing experience. These lotion candles melt quite fast so they don’t need to be lit for long. Packaged correctly, they make gorgeous gifts for the most discerning man or woman.

Lotion candle making steps:

1.  Fix a candle wick to the bottom of a 4 oz jar with cover.

2.  After the essential oils are added to either of the recipes above, just pour the mixture into the jar, keeping the wick centered.

3.  When the mixture has cooled trim the wick to about ¼ inch and you’re done.

There you have it just like I promised two lotion recipes and a surprise to have fun with. Everyone I know who has tried these lotion recipes loves them. The only comment about them from one gal was they took a little getting used to. The only other suggestion I have is that you should wrap them up after use and cover candles. This helps preserve the oils and keeps the bars clean.

Now go have fun and relax.

    1. Hello beautiful goddess,

Some solid body lotions are not solid like soap. What I usually do to apply these lotions is scoop a small amount out of the jar and apply to my skin. It doesn’t take much to cover a lot of skin. Other solid body lotions are soap like. To use these, simply rub them on your skin

      Be happy and have fun.
