Angel Fruit Delight Spa Snack

There are dozens of totally incredible, delectable and gorgeous spa snacks you can make for your personal spa day or for a spa party. However, one of the simplest and most popular snacks I make is with fruit, angel food cake, and whipped cream. What’s great is that it’s always a big hit with my spa party friends and is super simple to make.

Variations add a touch of creativity

This spa day snack can be created a number of ways and with a variety of fruit. Of course, you need to purchase or make an angel food cake. I usually buy mine due to time constraints. You can use a variety of fruit for this spa snack such as peaches, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Another option is to use two or more types of fruit in your snack.

About the fruit

The fruit can be used just as nature made it or you can sugar it. I’ve done it both ways and it works just fine either way. You can use fresh fruit, frozen fruit or canned fruit. When I use canned peaches, I always buy the freestone variety. They aren’t nice neat little wedges like the clings, but in my opinion (and I’m sticking to it), they have a much better flavor and that little tint of pink in the center adds color.

The healthiest way to prepare this spa snack is with fresh or frozen fruit with nothing added. However, if you sugar the fruit, the sugar draws out the juices and those juices add wonderful flavor to the angel food cake. I usually sugar fresh peaches, strawberries and raspberries three or four hours before I make the snack.

Serving options

You’ll want to use bowls instead of plates to serve this spa snack because angel food cake wedges don’t hold the fruit well even when you lay them on their side. You can always cut the cake so it’s nice and flat and serve on plates, but I’m too lazy for that. I dig out the bowls and lay the cake wedges on their side ready for the fruit. I then top the cake with the fruit then top the fruit with whipped cream. As an added touch, I top the whipped cream with a small piece of fruit and serve. Total preparation time about 15 minutes.

Calories

The calories for this snack will vary depending on how much whipped cream you use, whether you sugar the fruit or not and how large a wedge of angel food cake you serve.

1/12 of an angel food cake (1 serving) – 72 calories

½ cup blue berries – about 40 calories

½ cup strawberries – about 30 calories

1 medium freestone peach – about 20 calories

½ cup raspberries – about 32 calories

2 Tbsp whipped cream – about 20 calories (I use way more than two tablespoons, but if you don’t go wild like me, you can see a dollop of whipped cream won’t add much to the total calorie count.)

1 tsp sugar (optional) – 16 calories (How much sugar you use depends on how sweet you like the fruit. I usually use about 2 tsp for each 1/2 cup of fruit.)

Conclusion

What all this means is that you can serve up an awesome spa snack for just a little over 100 calories that can cost less than a dollar a serving. It doesn’t get much better than that, and you will have a house full of happy spa party buddies. Plus, this spa snack is so easy to make, you can create it just for yourself on those totally relaxing personal spa days.

Now go have fun and relax.
