Scented Sachet the Easy Way

It’s fun to create spa gifts that are super simple and super appreciated. One of those fun things is making a scented sachet for your family and friends. Scented sachets are great stocking stuffers and additions to gift baskets. Remember, Christmas is just around the corner. For today, I’m going to share a couple of recipes for making scented sachets.

A sachet is defined as a small soft bag containing perfumed powder. It is used to perfume items in a drawer or chest. The simplest recipes only contain a few ingredients and that’s how I like to do things. However, some scented sachet recipes contain flowers and herbs. The choice is yours depending on your ambition level and how you want your scented sachet to look.

You’ll need to purchase or make small bags to hold your sachets. I like the ready made Organza sachet bags that come complete with ribbon. They’re inexpensive and pretty. If you’re making a sachet for a man, you might want to go with the burlap look.

Basic Sachet Ingredients:

  • 8 oz corn starch
  • 2 oz unscented talcum powder
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 oz orris root powder (Orris root is used to hold color and fragrance longer.)

Mix above ingredients together well.

Now for the Fun Part

Add 3 drops of essential oil of choice for fragrance. A favorite is lavender and rose, but ylang ylang would also be nice. It’s up to you. Mix oil(s) into powder. When done add to bags and you’ve got the perfect scented sachet gift.

Now go have fun and relax.
