Summer Spa Party
It contains many of the same elements as a spa party at any other time of year. However, since summer is generally hotter than winter, there are a few changes you may want to make.
A summer spa party can be more fun outside
Unless the heat is stifling, consider having your spa party (at least a portion of it) outside. If you have a privacy fence around your dwelling, you can take it all outside. Some divas don’t like to be seen in public wearing their robes.
Others wouldn’t dream of stray male eyes wandering their way without their makeup. And they would be mortified if a guy sees them wearing a mud mask and cucumber shades. Know your guests and be sensitive to their feelings.
Candles and music for your summer spa party
Inside or outside, you still want to burn scented candles and play relaxing music. For the candles, consider using a lighter fragrance such as citrus.
Snacks for your summer spa party
You’ll still want to serve a snack only it should be something light and cool. Consider a fruit salad, yogurt with fresh fruit. Cheese and crackers still work for your summer party, just make sure you use a hard cheese like goat’s milk or cheddar if the cheese is to be served outdoors where it’s quite warm. Also, be careful about serving odoriferous cheeses or your guests might make a mad exodus out the back gate. Sorbets, sherbets and ice cream all make wonderful summer snacks as do fresh icy cold cut up vegetables and fruit.
A word of warning: If you opt to make sandwiches with perishable ingredients such as mayonnaise, bring them to your guests fresh to be eaten immediately. Don’t leave them on a tray outside to be snacked on.
Beverages for a summer spa party
Iced tea, slushies, smoothies, lemonade and iced coffee make great summer drinks. I hear margaritas and mimosas work well also (cough, cough, of course I wouldn’t know about such things.)
Summer spa party facial
Consider offering your guests a refreshing mint cucumber mask as a special spa treat. It’s refreshing and oh so good for their skin. It’s also simple to make. Take one cucumber (peeled, deseeded and cut in chunks) and 6 mint leaves and grind together in a food processor. Beat an egg white until almost firm. Add egg white to cucumber/mint mix to form a soft paste. Apply to clean face and neck. Leave on for about 20 minutes. Rinse off and apply moisture cream.
Whatever you do, remember the party is for you too. Don’t spend all your time fussing over your guests. They will be more relaxed and have more fun if you’re having fun with them. I’m a great fan of paper plates, plastic forks, plastic cups and paper napkins.
Now go have fun and relax.
